Girl Only by JohnColburn Girl Only by JohnColburn
And right after I finish telling everyone how much I'm not making comics, I go and make a comic. Whatever. I felt like it. That's the only reason anyone should need.

So some kid with hair in his face finds a necklace/choker/collar/thing and fails to heed the poorly phrased warning!

Or something.

This whole thing has nothing to do with anything. It all just came together as I worked. That's probably why the ending might seem a little weird, and also why I'm pretty sure you won't see much of this again.

And while I could have spent this time working on my mysterious game, I'll have you know that my code was compiling the whole time. For sure. Or at least it was when I started.

Ha ha, that was great. Although I have to say, "slurp" has got to be one of the scariest sound effects I've ever heard. Once you put it in this context anyway. Great job. :D

Love it. I know that it can't be that easy, but can't s/he just take the choker off?... I liked the sound effects too, they add more viscreality (word probably badly mispelled) to the transformation. What's the 'gurgle' just before the 'slurp!' of his penis and balls getting sucked up inside? Intestines making room for a growing uterus or something? Meh, I just get hung up on the details sometimes.

Just one thing, in the antepenultimate panal you've drawn the mouth as if the head was at a 3/4. That's only ever really done in animation (as it allows the mouth to be animated without redrawing the head). There's not really any reason for it on a still image and it looks kind of strange (not that I'm trying to be rude about it, its just a little constructive criticism).

Now that you mention it, I can see what you mean about that mouth. I was definitely trying to draw it from the side, not from 3/4. The actual problem, I think, was in the lips; I'm no good at drawing lips, and that's one of the main things I was experimenting with here. Drawing the lips poorly has made the mouth look like it's at an angle, even though I never meant for it to!

Anyway, thanks for pointing that out! I'll have to remember it next time I draw a similar panel. Also; I appreciate the criticism. I don't get that much of it.

I'm not really an expert in such things, but I find that the best way to draw a mouth from profile is to;

  1. Draw the upper lip as a bump in the outline of the face, it should be slightly pointed and start 1/3 of the way between the bottom of the nose and the tip of the chin.

  2. The lower lip should be rounded Whichever of the two (the upper and lower lips) is larger should also stick out slightly more (if they're both the same size. The bottom of the lower lip should be around halfway between the bottom of the nose and the tip of the chin.

  3. draw the line of the mouth from where the upper and lower lips meet, this line should follow the contour of the face (adjusted accordingly). This line should finish when its level with the front of the eyes.

  4. If you want to draw the lips, the upper lip should be drawn as half an "m" and the lower lip as half an arc.

  5. When the mouth is open, remember that it is only the lower lip/jaw which moves, the upper lip/jaw stays put (think of the upper jawline as a curved line from the mouth which meets the jawline lower the bottom of the ear to form a somewhat warped triangle). The inner outline of the lips should be arcs.

  6. If you're drawing the mouth from the side thenyou should only see half of it, never anymore and never any less.

I don't really need any help drawing mouths from the side. If you look through my gallery you'll notice that in almost every case when I draw a profile I draw the mouth in exactly the same way I did here. It's also the way that all sorts of comic book and manga artists handle it.

Saying that "you should only see half of it, never anymore and never any less" is a hopelessly naive statement and the sort of thing I usually see in poorly made "learn to draw" books. The important part is making sure people can read the expression of the mouth. I find that 'cheating' a bit and squeezing in a little extra really helps; strict half-mouths are much harder to work with and much less effective.

the thing i have noticed through exploring the world of tf and tg is all the comic strips only have a start, which is a pitty, because you could do alot with that, and your actual skill is unsurpassed, he'll i can think of a story ark just looking at the first to cells

Yes, starting is much easier than finishing. This one in particular was never meant to continue, but I know what you mean.

Just one comic strip is often a lot of work and it's hard to say where the ending will be. One more strip? Two more? Twenty? A hundred? It gets to be an awful lot of work if you want to tell a real story. Meanwhile you get lots of new ideas that you want to work on and you start to get bored with the one you're in the middle of and suddenly nothing is getting done.

Of course if you want to try to continuing the story in your own way, go ahead! Your idea could easily be as good as mine. I sure don't have time to finish it, but I won't stop anybody else who wants to.

i know how hard comic-ing is (if that is a real turm :s) believe me I tried and epicly failed as im no good at drawing heads and bodys together, christ knows why. the idea of a continuous story is where you make them 3 or 4 cells at a time and realeasing them bi weekly, that being said this is usually vey tiome cosuming still espeacially with backgrounds. Also i cant help but completely agree with you on the fact most artists get bored of their own work, im writing a story and i havent added to it for daaaays because i cba with it to tell the truth

But dude, are you going to make that sequence for me? If not just say so, it's no big deal.

I've been hesitant to reply because I'm not sure. I have the sequence partially finished and it's been on my list of "things to finish" for a while... but we've all seen how well that works.

So I guess... I still might. It's pretty much in the same boat as the next page of Saltwater, the next page of Ninmu Nanmu, part 2 of "Football Revenge", and everything else I really want to work on but don't have the time.

And straight out: I'm really sorry it took me so long to answer this question. Every time I read the question I wanted to say "Yeah, no problem, I'll finish it up..." but I knew it'd be a lie. So I just kept wussing out... x_x
